Nature Related Science Project Ideas

There are a variety of science project ideas that can be done for school, some are easier then others, and some take a great amount of time. Some good forms of science project ideas deal with nature and are easy to do with little to no supplies. Below are some good science project ideas that are sure to get you a good grade.

Nature watching is one of the most simple science projects that you can do. Simply designate a portion of your yard, a local park, or a local wooded area, as the place your experiment will be conducted. Bring with you a notebook, a writing utensil, and study all the animals you find. Remember to search high and low. Look up into the tree's to see which birds may reside there. Search down under the rocks and leaves to see what bugs may live there. Write down where you find the animal and what you witnessed it doing. Make sure to note the time of day, as animal behavior can change throughout the day. In the case of bugs, make sure to note how many legs and eyes they may have, and if they're winged or not. Details like these will help you to determine what kind of animal or insect they are if you wish to research them more.

Another good nature project is a compost pile. This teaches you more about organic matter, decomposition rates, and how nature recycles in its own way. The benefit of the compost pile is that you get a useful product out of it that can then be used for planting.

A compost pile is really simple to do. To create the compost pile all you do is to throw your organic and biodegradable garbage such as banana peels, leftover food, apple cores, wood and sticks, leaves, coffee grounds, and other all natural products into the pile. When you add new materials, turn the pile with a pitchfork so everything gets worked in good. If you make a good sized pile you can share it with your neighbors who have a garden, or make your own flower or vegetable garden. Another benefit to the compost pile is that you can be happy knowing that you're doing a little part in helping to clean up and preserve our planet while still doing school work.
